Worship at St. David's
St. David’s is an intimate, but growing congregation. On a typical Sunday one can experience a range of services, musical experiences, and educational offerings.
The 8 am service is a spoken service using the traditional language of Rite I from the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer. It is always a Eucharist (communion) service, without hymns, with one of St. David’s priests presiding. The congregation generally sits in the chancel close to the altar. This service is followed by coffee and conversation in the Wicker Room, which is directly adjoining the chancel.
In contrast to the contemplative nature of the 8 am service, the 9:15 am Family Service is energetic and uses contemporary Rite II language from the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer, and both modern and traditional music encompassing the Episcopal, as well as other Christian, traditions. Most often, the congregation is accompanied by piano and a cantor or choir. Family members of all ages participate in this service as ushers, readers, and offertory bearers. “Worship Bags” containing a Bible-based activity page, crayons and craft items are available for toddlers and young school-aged children. Children ages 3 years through Grade 6 are sent forth to their Christian formation classes from this service. From Labor Day Weekend to Memorial Day Weekend this service is conducted outdoors, weather permitting, in the garden on the Klingle Street side of the church.
The 11:15 am service is a more quintessentially Anglican service, using the traditional language of Rite I from the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer. The service alternates between services of Holy Eucharist on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month, and Morning Prayer with Eucharist on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. The more traditional music for this service is accompanied by organ and vocal quartet or choir. This service is followed by coffee and conversation in the undercroft.
Between the 9:15 and 11:15 services Christian formation opportunities are offered for all ages, including Godly Play for 3 to 5 year olds (Parish House Atrium), The House of David for kindergarten through Grade 6 (Church Undercroft), Youth Group for Grades 7 through 12 (Parish House Main Floor), and the Adult Forum (Church Undercroft). In addition, coffee and conversation is always available in the Wicker Room directly adjacent to the chancel. The time between the 9:15 and 11:15 services is a period of exciting energy, fellowship, and learning that is not to be missed!
In addition to Sunday morning services and Christian formation, Morning Prayer is offered each weekday at 8:30 am in the Chapel, and the Holy Eucharist is celebrated each Wednesday at noon in the Chapel, followed by lunch and Bible Study. The Chapel of the Holy Family is open weekdays for personal prayer, meditation, and devotion. Prayer Requests may be made in the book kept at the entrance to the Chapel, and will be offered up at the weekday services.
St David’s also offers a host of activities and special services throughout the year. Check the “Calendar” section of this website often for updates.
